DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE OF A MARK 7 MOD 1 ARRESTING GEAR WITH HEAVY DEADLOADS.

Abstract

Mark 7 Mod 1 arresting-gear dynamic performance data were recorded during 25 arrestments of 80,000-, 95,000-, and 110,000-pound deadloads. The engaging-speed limits are 90, 75, and 70 knots respectively for these deadloads. Maximum ram stroke (of 123 inches) and maximum deck-cable tension (of 110,000 pounds) are the limiting parameters. The existing constant runout control valve/cam should be modified to improve the engine-cylinder pressure versus ram stroke relationship. The engaging speed limits for the 95,000- and 110,000-pound deadloads could be increased approximately 7 knots with proper valve/cam modification.
