COMPARISON OF SHELL AND ELASTICITY THEORY SOLUTIONS FOR THICK, ORTHOTROPIC, CIRCULAR CYLINDRICAL SHELLS.

Abstract

Equations for the static response to arbitrary loads of orthotropic, circular cylindrical shells with thicknesses beyond the thin shell theory range are systematically applied to a number of specific problems. On the basis of comparisons with corresponding results in the theory of elasticity, the range of validity of these equations is established. However, for lack of appropriate exact solutions, the validity of the present equations for orthotropic shells under nonuniform loads must be inferred from isotropic solutions. (Author)
