DISPERSED ARRAY VERIFICATION AND IMPLEMENTATION.

Abstract

This report describes the results of a study to determine the feasibility of using a dispersed array of high-gain elements as a satellite communications terminal. The objective was coherent operation of the elements to realize the additional gain which this mode of operation provides. Coherent reception is accomplished by phase locking the individual received signals to a common reference and then adding. Coherent transmission is realized by combining pure phase conjugation with a vernier phase control derived from signal-to-noise ratio measurements. The design of a two-element dispersed array is presented, complete with detailed block diagrams of all subsystems required for coherent transmission and reception. (Author)
