SUBSTITUTION REACTIONS OF THE AMMINE COMPLEXES OF PALLADIUM (II).

Abstract

This document reports on the substitution reactions involving the square complexes of palladium (II) in aqueous HCl solution that were studied by spectrophotometric and potentiometric methods. Reaction rates suggest that parallel mechanism obtain with one reaction involving the solvent as a nucleophilic reagent and a second reaction involving the incoming C(-) reagent. Values of the equilibrium quotients for both reactions were calculated from absorbance and pH data. Several of the specific rate constants were calculated and a complete mechanism is proposed. Brief studies of the trans-effect in this system and of the cis-trans isomerism of Pd(NH3)2Cl2 are included. (Author)
