STUDY OF THE ESTIMATION OF CERTAIN TRACE IMPURITIES BY FLUORIMETRIC METHODS.

Abstract

The final development on an absolute spectrofluorimeter is described. This involved work on quantum-counter systems, the determination of the spectral distribution of various excitation sources, and the evaluation of photomultiplier sensitivity characteristics. The use of this spectrofluorimeter for the determination of the absolute excitation and fluorescence spectra of the complexes of a number of reagents with aluminium and magnesium is described and the results obtained are displayed graphically. Using absolute spectral data, the sensitivity of the various reagents towards aluminium and magnesium ions is investigated and a table of absolute sensitivity indices drawn up. Finally, the method of applying these results to a fluorimeter having any known spectral characteristics is described.
