LD 50/60 DETERMINATIONS ON SHEEP EXPOSED TO 250-KVP X RAYS WITH PARTIAL BODY PROTECTION.

Abstract

This paper reports midlethal doses, i.e., 50 percent mortality for a given population in a 60-day post-irradiation observation period (LD 50/60 values) for sheep (Rambouillet-Columbia cross, 18 to 24 months of age) exposed to 250-kvp X rays, while one-half the body was protected by a 1-inch lead shield. The results are discussed in terms of partial body protection factors for a 1-inch-thick lead shield and for lower or upper body protection. The LD 50/60 values were obtained from a probit analysis. The LD 50/60 value for lower body bilateral exposures was 1443 R (1364-1575). The LD 50/60 value for upper body bilateral exposures was 1875 R (1514-2104). The numbers in parentheses refer to a range of values corresponding to a 95 percent probability. (Author)
