ENGINEERING TEST OF CARRIER, COMBINATION TOOL AND CLEANING MATERIAL FOR RIFLE, 7.62MM, M14E2.
Abstract
Testing of the Carrier, Combination Tool and Cleaning Material for Rifle, 7.62mm, M14E2, was conducted. The test was conducted to determine the technical performance and safety characteristics of the test item and to determine its suitability to withstand wear under conditions of intended use, including durability of the 4-ounce nylon material, seam construction, and the cord. This approach had the advantage of being more expedient and less costly than a troop field testing approach which would necessarily overlap the Service Test to some degree. Comparisons between the test item and the standard field uniform fabric, 8.5-ounce cotton sateen, were included to provide an additional aid to the interpretation of results.
