EXPANDABLE SELF-RIGIDIZING HONEYCOMB AEROSPACE SHELTERS AND SOLAR COLLECTORS.

Abstract

The summation of the progress reported in this, the first of twelve monthly reports, concerns resin research and development. Material development has included the defining and establishing of test procedures to determine resin characteristics. Equipment and methods have been developed to (1) evaluate flexural strength and flexural modulus, (2) evaluate the rate of cure, and (3) determine resin shrinkage during cure. Solar collector development engineering has not progressed beyond the planning stage since a subcontract program planned for this phase of the work has not yet been initiated. Resin development has been recorded in (1) isocyanate terminated prepolymers and (2) acetoxy silane prepolymers.
