NERVA COMPONENTS IRRADIATION PROGRAM. VOLUME 3: GTR TEST 7,

Abstract

An experiment was performed utilizing the NARF Ground Test Reactor to determine the effects of reactor radiation on pulse preamplifiers, systems preamplifiers, and pressure transducers. These components (subsystems) were of the types proposed for the NERVA engine. The experiment was designed to determine the effects of gamma dose rate (and/or neutron flux) and dose (and/or integrated neutron flux) on the electrical characteristics of the test items. To achieve these objectives the experiment was performed in two phases: (1) power level steps in the beginning of the test, with data taken at 0.01-Mw, 0.1-Mw, 1.0-Mw, and 3-Mw; and (2) an extended irradiation at 3-Mw, with data taken periodically during this interval.
