RESISTORS FOR MICROPOWER CIRCUITS.

Abstract

Micropower resistors of 4.7 megohm resistance value have been prepared in finished form for testing according to specifications. Preliminary investigations incident to their preparation have been completed. The strength of substrates has been studied, and processing parameters in the pressing operation have been evaluated. Fabrication of substrates under conditions indicated in this investigation has been accomplished, and substrates of satisfactory strength have been produced. A number of other resistor processing variables have also been examined. The surface preparation of substrates and the use of various terminating materials have been investigated for effects on resistance and noise. Improvement in properties of resistors has been obtained. Different resistive pastes have been compared to permit selection of one producing an optimum combination of fired properties. Fired resistive films on the new substrate system have been helixed successfully using the improved helixing machine, and a newly installed bridge circuit has permitted reproducible helixing to value. Encapsulation of helixed units has been investigated and effects on resistance value and temperature coefficient of resistance have been found to be essentially negligible. (Author)
