Blast Measurements For CETG Projects,

Abstract

The Ballistic Research Laboratories (BRL), Project 39.2, provided blast measurements for various projects of the Civil Effects Test Group (CETG). Measurements of static and dynamic pressures both inside shelters and in the free field were obtained. Self-recording instrumentation was used for most of the measurements. Some electronic measurements were taken on Smoky shot on the main blast line (line 1). The project participated in eight shots with varying numbers of instrumentation channels. On several shots complete blast-line instrumentation was obtained since the combined CETG and Armed Forces Special Weapons Project missions of BRL overlapped. A total of 97 overpressure and 34 dynamic-pressure channels was provided. Good overpressure -- time data were obtained on 80 channels; 11 channels gave peak pressure only; and 6 channels produced poor or no records. Good dynamic-pressure -- time data were obtained on 20 channels; 10 channels gave peak values; and 4 channels produced poor or no records. Pressure data obtained for Project 34.4 in various portions of ventilation systems were checked against existing shock-tube data on scale model pipe and tunnels systems. (Author)
