DEVELOPMENT OF INSTRUMENT-LIGHT PROECTOR, FRE-9537.

Abstract

The present procedure for laying artillery weapons at night requires two M14 aiming-post lights clamped to the aiming posts. Each light is turned on or off by a switch on its metal case. To preserve the batteries of the instrument and maintain blackout precautions, a member of the gun crew must leave uhe gun pit to turn the aiming-post lights on or off before and after firing the weapon. In an effort to mprove on this method, a new system was devised, whereby aiming-post reflectors are employed in con unction with an instrument-light projector on the panoramic telescope of the weapon. Attached to the side of the rotating head of the telescope, the projector transmits a pin-point beam of light that is reflected back into the field of view of the telescope when its line of sight is on the aiming posts. The optical glass of the reflector on the near aiming post has a red filter, while the reflector on the far post is made of clear optical glass. (Author)
