DEVELOPMENT OF TELESCOPE MOUNT, T198.

Abstract

The development of the T198 telescope mount was begun at the same time as work was started on the project for the T170 telescope it was to hold. The T198 mount, by which the T170 telescope is attached to the T58 tank's turret wall, is designed to permit fine corrections to be made in the telescope's position when it is used for boresighting the gun. The underside of the mount is fixed firmly to a mounting pad on the turret wall just to the right of the gunner, and a dovetail way base; a pin in the way acts as a stop for the telescope, and a lever alongside the way clamps the telescope in position by forcing a gib laterally against it.
