DEVELOPMENT OF GUN DIRECTION COMPUTER, M15 (T29) SERIES.
Abstract
M-15 computers are included in the M35 system along with M1 gunnery officer's console and an M27 power supply. The computers can also be used independently to compute firing data for single batteries or to survey gun positions. The M15-series computer increases the efficiency of fire control and simplifies it, without taking from artillery its characteristic flexibility of installation. The computer is mobile, easily installed and requires only one operator. It is designed to relieve the operator of much of the stress and fatigue that would lead to errors in computation. Moreover, transfer limits can be extended, or eliminated, because the computer makes corrections for nonstandard meteorological conditions and ballistic conditions (including muzzle velocity) in each ballistic computation. Finally, the computer enables a battalion to mass its fire in less time, with more accurate data, and with less preparation than required by other current fire control methods. (Author)
