STUDY EXPLOSIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF ALIPHATIC NITRAMINES OF LOW CARBON CONTENT.

Abstract

Dinitrodimethyloxamide is one of a series of aliphatic nitramines having low carbon and relatively high oxygen contents, the explosive properties of which are being determined under this problem. It was considered that such compounds might be of value for use in flashless propellant compositions since the low carbon content would reduce the smoke effects from such propellants. While dinitrodimethyloxamide has been found to have favorable energy content and sensitivity, it is too unstable at slightly elevated temperatures or when in contact with moisture to warrant further consideration for use as an ingredient of propellant compositions.
