CONTINUOUS-TONE ELECTROSTATIC ELECTROGRAPHY.

Abstract

Improvements in the powder-spray developing technique produced pictures which have exceptionally good density rendition. These pictures also have a grain texture which can be resolved only under 12X magnification, and they show no halo. Prints can be produced at a maximum reflection density of 1.8. A number of good pictures have been produced but the new development technique requires further improvement. The improvements in quality of electrophotographic prints have resulted chiefly from the use of a plate electrode in place of the wire grid used previously in powder-cloud development. A determination was made of the photographic speed of the electrophotographic plate when the brush-box development technique was used as recommended in detailed specifications reported previously for the electrophotographic camera. The average speed for daylight illumination is equivalent to an ASA exposure index of six. However, the speed appears to depend, to some extent, upon the type of subject and the lighting conditions. The ASA index for photoflood illumination is three.
