CONTINUOUS-TONE ELECTROSTATIC ELECTROGRAPHY.

Abstract

This system of electrophotography uses the following three basic elements: (1) an electrophotographic plate having a photoconductive surface layer which can be electrically charged, and upon which an electric image can be formed by exposure of the plate to a light image; (2) a means to develop or transform the electric image into a powder image by subjecting the plate to an electrically charged powder dispersed in air; and (3) a means for transferring and fixing this powder image onto a surface suitable for handling and use. This summary contains: (1) a statement of the basic steps in the process of electrophotography developed during this project; (2) an evaluation of the process in terms of the specific objectives established before the work was started; and (3) the potentialities of the process.
