Procedure for the Quantitative Analysis of Nitroform and Bis(Trinitroethyl) Urea Using Tetraphenylarsonium Chloride,
Abstract
A procedure is given for the analysis of nitroform and bis(trinitroethyl) urea based upon a quantitative reaction between tetraphenylarsonium chloride and nitroform in a water solution. An insoluble salt is formed which can be isolated readily and weighed. Nitroform is released from bis(trinitroethyl) urea by alkaline hydrolysis. By means of the tetraphenylarsonium chloride procedure it is possible to recover 99.8% of known quantities of nitroform present in aqueous solutions. (Author)
