Wind-Tunnel Tests of CVB41-43 Class Carrier. Part II - Tuft Studies of Airflow over 1/96-Scale Full-Length Model,

Abstract

Modifications to the CVB41-43 Class Carrier have been proposed which might change the airflow pattern over and around the flight deck. Consequently, the Bureau of Ships requested that a study of the airflow about a 1/96-scale full-length carrier model be made. The following configurations were tested: original, modified, modified with aircraft on the flight deck and flight deck cleared of the island and all obstructions. This report presents tuft photographs to indicate changes in airflow due to the various configurations. (Author)
