Warheads for Air Target Guided Missiles; Testing of. Rod-Expelling Warhead No. 135; Fragmentation Test of.

Abstract

This test was conducted to determine the fragmentation characteristics of rod-expelling Warhead No. 135. The warhead contained 66 hexagonal rods (13 in. long), a plastic fairing, and a 13.5 in. central column of 0.430 in. diameter tetryl. When statically detonated, rod-expelling Warhead No. 135 produced: a median rod velocity of 150 ft./sec; only slight distortion of the rods; and rods approximately 6 deg. apart about the warhead circumference.
