Test and Development of 3-in./70 Gun Barrels. Recovery Test of 3-in./70 AA Projectiles in Gun Type G Mod 12 Ser 24927.

Abstract

Five (5) 3-in./70 AA projectiles Type Ex 24 Mod 6 and five (5) 3-in./70 Q.F., H.e. British projectiles were fired in the 3-in./70 Gun Type G Mod 12 No. 24927 with 40 ESR to determine percent of theoretical spin and band condition on recovery. The average rate of spin for the American projectiles Ex 24 Mod 6 was 91.7% and for the British projectiles 90.7% of the nominal value for the projectile-gun combinations.
