Warheads for Air Target Guided Missiles, Testing of. On Rod-Expelling Warhead No. 134; Fragmentation Test of.

Abstract

This test was conducted to determine the fragment mass distribution of Composition C-3 loaded Rod-expelling warhead No. 134, which was cylindrical, 4-3/8-in. in diameter and internally slotted. The wall thickness was 0.578-in. at the center 4-in. of length and tapered uniformly to 0.422-in. at both ends. The subject warhead produced the intended number of rods, 24, all of which were of the design length 12-in. All of the rods were slightly deformed at their ends and none showed evidence of spalling.
