Studies on the Propagation of Seismic Waves in Plastic Media,

Abstract

The analysis presented in this report constitutes an initial phase of the over-all investigation relating to the propagation of seismic waves in plastic media outlined in the original program submitted to the Geophysics Branch of the Office of Naval Research through the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. In order to bring the results of the theoretical investigation presented in this report to an effective conclusion, it is necessary to conduct extended numerical calculations. It is also planned to investigate the effect of plastic materials, which can be suitably represented by stress-strain-time laws, upon the propagation of Rayleigh waves. These two activities are now in progress. (Author)
