Exploratory Model Tests for Engineering Design of a Hydrofoil Vessel,

Abstract

The report is divided into four separate parts, covering the four aspects so far studied and a fifth part containing conclusions. The following characteristics were studied: The lift and drag characteristics of a single-foil model having an aspect ratio of 20; The lift and drag characteristics of a foil moving in the wave train of another (tandem arrangement); The drag characteristics of the struts used; Hull-shape study--tests of existing round- and V-bottom hull models of approximately the desired proportions, to determine their relative merits with regard to resistance.
