BLU-30/B (Nonhazardous) Bomblet

Abstract

This report discusses the design and development of the BLU-30/B23 bomblet. The BLU-30/B23 is a submunition cluster bomblet designed for delivery from the SUU-13/A dispenser. It provides, upon ground impact, thermal dissemination of agents CS or BZ. Theoretical area coverage and effectiveness of this bomblet for use in various counterinsurgency situations are also presented. Submunition dissemination tests conducted at Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute (IITRI) during this program demonstrated efficiencies as high as 76 percent for CS and 40 percent for BZ.
