USSR Strategies, Objectives, and Force Postures in Response to U.S. BMD, 1968-1980. Part 2: Force Postures, Weapon Systems Characteristics, and Weapon Costs.

Abstract

This report presents data on the Soviet strategic offensive force and strategic defensive force elements used in the SPA-68 war games. Data on systems that appear in intelligence community estimates has been provided by the U.S. Army Threat Analysis Group. Where strategic systems represent alternative responses to USBMD options for Soviet force planners, technical characteristics have been estimated by the SPA study group. Like all threat models, the purpose of developing the alternative response to postures is to explore the implications of courses of action open to Soviet force planners. (Author)
