At-Sea Alignment of an Aircraft Inertial Navigator.
Abstract
An error analysis is made of four competing configurations for at-sea alignment of an inertial navigator - conventional gyrocompassing, transfer alignment, insertion and filter/data-link. These are treated from a uniform point of view, with a consistent set of assumptions and equations developed to provide the framework for system comparison. The filter/data-link scheme is then studied in more detail. Considerable attention is given to modeling the at-sea environment with brief consideration given to in-flight error propagation. (Author)
