Synthesis of a New High-Energy Solid Propellant Oxidizer

Abstract

Two new propellant ingredients, methylenedioxyamine (DO), a new monopropellant, and methylenedioxyammonium diperchlorate (DOAP), a new solid propellant oxidizer, have been synthesized at AFRPL using a five-step sequence of reactions. The reaction sequence, for producing DO in an overall yield of 51% or DOAP in an overall yield of 25-30%, is presented in detail. A synopsis of the experimental work leading to the successful synthesis of these new propellant ingredients is given.
