A Method to Determine the Effectiveness of a Helicopter-Borne Weapon System: Evaluation of the General Electric Company Minigun Turret System for the UH-1E Aircraft.

Abstract

A method was designed and used to provide data for determination of system effectiveness of a helicopter-borne weapon system. The method was a series of weapon firing runs or tests to develop a statistical sample of projectile impacts as a function of time, operator, firing range and helicopter speed. The data are intended to be used as inputs to a digital computer target incapacitation program. This memorandum describes the method as well as the weapon system used in the initial experiment. A sample of the reduced data from one firing run is presented. (Author)
