Performance of High-Speed Naval Vessels. Part IV: Computer Study on the Effects of Parametric Variations on Seaworthiness Characteristics.
Abstract
A computer study was carried out on five series of hull forms all having the same length and the same (or nearly so) LCB/LCF while beam, draft, prismatic coefficient, maximum section coefficient or displacement-length ratio were systematically varied. Response amplitude operators of pitch and heave and their respective phases were computed and these results were then used to compute pitch and heave motions in State 5 and 6 seas at various ship speeds. On the basis of the results of these five series, a new model was designed with the most favorable hull characteristics from a seaworthiness point of view. The results of the computations showed that forms with large prismatic coefficient and small maximum section coefficient had improved seaworthiness characteristics. (Author)
