Lessons Learned, Headquarters, 4th Infantry Division Artillery

Abstract

The primary mission of the 4th Infantry Division Artillery was to provide continuous and timely fire support to the 4th Infantry Division and other friendly forces by destroying or neutralizing, in priority, those targets that jeopardized the accomplishment of the mission. The secondary mission was to increase the effectiveness of RVNAF artillery elements and enhance the security of civilian population in the area of operation. This was accomplished by instructing RVNAF artillery units in proper firing battery, FDC, and grid clearance procedures, as well as instructing RF/PF, CIDG, PSDF, and village members in the correct procedures for the adjustment of artillery fire.
