Rotor Blade Radar Antenna.

Abstract

This report describes a research effort administered under the JANAIR Program (Contract Nonr 4148(00)) to investigate the feasibility of using the main rotor blade of a helicopter as a high resolution, rapid scan, K band radar antenna. This phase of the program was conducted during the period of March 1965 through June 1966 by Bell Helicopter Company with David W. Young and Associates as a major subcontractor. Feasibility studies were performed which established the criteria for fabrication of prototype hardware. Primary emphasis was placed on antenna design and pattern measurements for both static and dynamic conditions. Additional studies were made in the area of display design requirements and crossed beam scan techniques as they relate to the basic rotor blade antenna concept. (Author)
