Aerodynamic Stability and Control Report for the Sparrow III Model XAAM-N-6b and YAAM-N-6b Missile,

Abstract

Static stability and control data are presented for the Sparrow IIIB guided missile. The data included herein applies primarily to the Sparrow IIIB missile when equipped with the Rocketdyne 23,000 pound-second impulse motor. The data apply equally to the XAAM-N-6b and to the YAAM-N-6b when the missiles are equipped with the aforementioned motor. Data for the YAAM-N-6b missile equipped with the 1.8ks 7800 C-8 motor will be separately presented in an addendum to this report. Normal force and pitching moment smoothed wind tunnel data are presented. Measurements of rolling moments and roll control available are shown along with the damping-in-pitch and damping-in-roll derivatives. Geometric and inertial characteristics are presented in summary form. This report presents data over the range of Mach numbers from 0.8 to 4.6 and for angles of attack up to 50 degrees. (Author)
