Solid-Propellant Combustion Instability Suppression Devices. Volume II. Survey of Applications of Mechanical Suppression Devices in Solid-Propellant Rockets

Abstract

A comprehensive survey of application of suppression devices in rocket motors has been completed. This survey was limited to mechanical suppression devices that generally, for purposes of this discussion, may be grouped into the categories of rods, baffles (including paddles), and acoustic cavities (resonant and nonresonant). The survey was further restricted to relate only to instances involving operational rocket motors or development versions of such motors, where the intention clearly was to incorporate a suppression device ultimately into the motor design.
