Antenna System Gross Resistance Measurements at the Navy VLF Transmitting Station, Cutler, Maine.
Abstract
Measurements of the antenna system total effective resistance (gross resistance) were conducted in May and October 1972, at the U.S. Navy VLF transmitting station (call letters NAA), Cutler, Maine. Measurements were made on the north antenna array before and after the annual summer maintenance period, and on the south antenna array following the maintenance period. The results do not show any significant overall change in the measured values of antenna system gross resistance following the maintenance period, although a slight reduction in gross resistance was observed at frequencies above 20 kHz. A comparison of these measurements was made with the 'Proof of Performance' measurements of antenna gross resistance conducted by Pickard and Burns, Inc., in 1961, and some sizeable differences in the measured values were noted.
