AN/APS-116 (XN-3) Radar Set

Abstract

Radar Set AN/APS-116(XN-3) is used for search and undersea Warfare applications. Its primary purpose is to aid in submarine detection. The radar set employs high-resolution (pulse compression) techniques to achieve the capability of detecting submarine periscopes within five seconds after exposure under severe sea conditions at ranges of up to 20 miles. The radar set will detect submarine snorkels and may also be used for surface plotting, radar navigation, and station keeping.
