The Detection of Non-Metallic Anti-Tank Mines Using Sub-Nanosecond Pulse Radar Principles. Part 1. Initial Investigations

Abstract

This memorandum is a record of initial investigations carried out at RARDE in the period September 1968 to September 1970 into the use of ultrashort RF pulses for the detection of non-metallic mines. The background relating to the use of microwaves is considered and the requirements which must be met in applying this technique are discussed. Accounts of laboratory and field studies are given. The investigation forms part of a pre-feasibility study being undertaken by RARDE into the problems of the detection of non-metallic land mines.
