PRODUCTION ENGINEERING MEASURE FOR BERYLLIUM OXIDE AND PARTS PRODUCED FROM IMPORTED ORES.

Abstract

Physical property measurements have been completed on beryllium oxide test pieces that were produced from standard powder and fabrication processes employed at the initiation of the contract. Tests were performed as per MIL-I-10A unless otherwise specified. The fabricated shapes were 99 percent pure and were a minimum of 96 percent of theoretical density. Average test values are as follows: Dielectric constant and loss factor - 6.43 and 0.00089 respectively at 23 C. Dielectric strength - 209 volts/mil at room temperature. Flexural strength - 26,000 p.s.i. at room temperature. Thermal Conductivity - 1516 B.T.U. x in./hr. x sq ft x F at 100 F 1056 B.T.U. x in./hr. x sq ft x F at 280 F. Four typical beryllium oxide parts for use in the electronics industry have also been produced to required specifications employing standard fabrication processes. (Author)
