A COMPUTATION OF THE VERTICAL CIRCULATION IN A FRONTAL ZONE FROM THE QUASI-GEOSTROPHIC EQUATIONS.

Abstract

The diagnostic differential equation for the stream function of the non-geostrophic motion in a frontal zone is solved numerically from observed data of a cold front. The effect of condensation on the vertical circulation is considered. The picture of the total transverse motion shows that both cold and warm air take part in the ascent along the front. (Author)
