RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ON ADVANCED GRAPHITE MATERIALS. VOLUME XIV. STUDY OF HIGH-TEMPERATURE TENSILE PROPERTIES OF ZTA GRADE GRAPHITE.

Abstract

The report describes the short time tensile properties of ZTA grade artificial graphite. These tensile properties were measured under the conditions of (a) various annealings, (b) various load rates, (c) various atmospheres, and (d) argon pressure from 5 to 150 psig at temperatures ranging to 2760 C (5000 F). The tensile strength was found to be dependent upon grain orientation, load rate, prior degassing treatment, and on surrounding gas pressure. (Author)
