ANALYSIS OF ACOUSTICAL PROBLEMS AT THE SATELLITE CONTROL FACILITY.

Abstract

This is the final report of a study made of the noise environment in the satellite control facility (SCF). The results of this analysis indicate that the sound environment in the SCF is sufficiently severe to threaten the operational effectiveness of the network. The most severe sound exposures are potentially damaging to human hearing. The least severe exposures interfere with essential voice communication. The report includes sections describing on-site acoustic surveys made at the satellite test center and the Vandenberg tracking station. Critical noise problems in the SCF and acoustical criteria for operating areas are given. A concluding section presents noise reduction measures which may be utilized to reduce noisy conditions.
