AGING OF RACEWAY ADHESIVE.

Abstract

The test was conducted to evaluate the effects of aging on the Armstrong A12T epoxy adhesive bonding system used on the raceway and case interface of the third stage Minuteman motor. A modification of the ASTM cleavage test was conducted. Seventy-two cylindrical section raceway samples from nine FSU motor cases were tested. The results of a statistical analysis revealed no evidence of physical deterioration of Armstrong A12T epoxy adhesive as a result of aging. The variation in shear strength and hardness, and the ratio of cohesive to adhesive failure that resulted from this test were attributed entirely to the variation in mix ratio, thoroughness of mix, surface preparation and method of application.
