INDUSTRIAL PREPAREDNESS MEASURE: RESISTORS, FIXED, FILM TYPE, GENERAL PURPOSE (HIGH STABILITY).

Abstract

The objective of this Industrial Preparedness Measure was the development of a line of 5% and 10% resistance tolerance film type resistors having improved electrical performance stability and reliability, and which will be producible in large quantities at a cost comparable to specification MIL-R-11 carbon composition styles. The RC-07 and the RC-20 style passed all of the requirements of Pilot Plant testing with the following exceptions: 1) the RC-20 high ranges (100,000 ohms, 0.27 megohm and 0.50 megohm) marginally exceeded the quality assurance provisions as a result of either the 100 C load life or the 150 C no load tests. 2) A sport problem developed with the RC-07 style as a result of moisture cycle testing. This problem is related to the manufacturing process and should be eliminated thru continued production experince. Limited production experience gained during the preproduction and Pilot Plant operations indicated that the process yields and equipment operation of this pilot plant facility were satisfactory in all respects. A formal statistical analysis determined that the failure rate of this resistor (RC-07 and RC-20) is 0.147%. If the high temperature requirement is omitted, the failure rate becomes (0.116%) which compares favorably with the desired goal of (0.100%).
