EXPERIMENTAL METHOD OF DETERMINING THE VELOCITY OF SOUND IN GRAPHITE,

Abstract

A new experimental technique was developed to determine the plate velocity of sound in graphite. This technique uses a thin cylindrical shell specimen and is less dependent on test specimen boundary condition than the standard beam vibration test. Results of the dynamic Young's modulus tests were in excellent agreement with static measurements made on the same test specimens. (Author)
