CONFIGURATION INTERACTION IN THE CARBON ATOM,

Abstract

The interaction of the 1s(2)2s(2)2P(2), 1s(2)2p(4), 1s(2)2s(2)2p3p and 1s(2)2s2p(2)3s configurations of the carbon atom are studied theoretically. The wave functions of the whole atom for these configurations are stated. The matrix elements of energy are expressed through one-electron wave functions. Using one-electron wave functions computed by the method of the self-consistent field without exchange, the matrix elements of energy are computed as diagonal matrix elements and as matrix elements connecting different configurations of the same parity. Secular equations are solved for each type of term of the above mentioned configurations. (Author)
