A LEVITATION MELTING APPARATUS FOR THE PREPARATION OF ULTRAPURE SAMPLES OF REACTIVE MATERIALS.

Abstract

An apparatus for melting conducting materials by the use of electromagnetic levitation is described. This technique eliminates the problem of crucible contamination. A brief phenomenological explanation of the process is presented along with some design information for the fabrication of levitation coils. A detailed description of the apparatus is included together with information on several materials which have been successfully prepared using it. (Author)
