WINDOW PROBLEM IN A CYLINDRICAL GEOMETRY.

Abstract

The problem of propagating an electromagnetic wave across a plasma cylinder containing a periodic potential along the axis was simplified by taking into account the collisions, which allows one to avoid a difficult Cauchy's problem. A first approximation, neglecting the variation of the field along the trajectories, gives the frequency range of the window, depending upon the number of trapped particles. By taking into account the influence of the radial variation of the field in a narrow tube on the electron trajectories, a better approximation was obtained, and the effect of the radial field can be seen.
