DYNAMIC SHAFT SEALS IN SPACE.

Abstract

The objective of the program is to acquire the techniques for sealing high speed rotative shafts under the operating conditions of high temperature liquid metals and vapors, the nearvacuum environments of space and to provide long seal life. The liquid metal seal test rig was completely manufactured, assembled, and installed in the facility. The liquid metal seal test facility check-out continued. The systematic approach was adopted which will insure expeditious completion of this check-out. Instrumentation set-up and check-out for the liquid metal seal test rig progressed throughout the quarter. Data reduction utilizing a computer program was used on the water seal test results.
