PREMIXED HOT ASPHALT PAVING MIXTURE,

Abstract

A premixed, prepackaged combination of fine aggregate and emulsified asphalt was developed for patching runways and other pavement surfaces. Coarse aggregate is added in the field while the mixture is heated to remove water from the emulsion. The mixture was tested in the laboratory and in field tests at NAS, Alameda, California and NAAS, Fallon, Nevada. The material, prepared according to specifications, was obtained commercially. The tests showed that when the coarse aggregate was added during the field heating-andmixing cycle as recommended, the patching material was high-quality and could be handled like conventional asphaltic concrete.
