STUDY OF THE APPLICATION OF CODING THEORY.

Abstract

This report deals mostly with discrete codes. The codes which are discussed are used principally to compress information into the fewest possible digits, and little attention is given to error-reducing codes. Several other aspects of coding processes beside information-compression are considered, and some coding process results might better be classified under finite state machine theory. Also, some attention has been given to digital computer design and synthesis. It is felt that these fields are closely related not only because apparatus must eventually be made to carry out the encoding and decoding if the code is to be used in practice, but also because the definition of coding process is sufficiently general to describe the sequential transducers found in various parts of informating processing equipment.
